The opportunity has arisen for an Interventions Deputy Director on a fixed term basis until July 2021. This is a regional role, covering 3 CRC’s in the East of England, with a flexible base of operations.

As a Deputy Director, you will develop and maintain key strategic and operational leadership across the region to deliver the business and contractual requirements for interventions. To ensure an effective risk management framework and processes to promote public protection through high quality, integrated services, reduce reoffending

Job Description

Starting Salary: SCCOG Band B £53,104 per annum

Interviews will take place on 10th, 13th and 14th July 2020.


Main Responsibilities
  • To ensure the delivery of the objectives of the annual service and equality plans at a local level
  • To lead on the delivery of operational performance and contractual requirements
  • To ensure a comprehensive range of services across in house and supply chain to deliver the sentence of the court within a resource allocation framework
  • To ensure delivery of effective risk management
  • To ensure delivery of quality effective interventions
  • To recruit, appoint, develop and deploy staff as appropriate, including direct line management of operational managers
  • To lead on local systems for engaging with the central hub and NPS
  • To develop and maintain strategic and operational partnerships
  • To build strong and effective relationships with stakeholders
  • To work collaboratively with the other Deputy Directors
  • To deputise for the Director as required
  • To ensure Public Protection and Safeguarding is managed and to represent CRC at external partnership meetings
  • To seek and develop opportunities for leading locality-based partnerships to reduce reoffending
  • To develop and maintain positive relationships with NPS senior managers as required
  • To lead change and ensure smooth implementation of changes in practice, procedures and systems
  • To ensure safe and decent services are delivered at all times
  • To represent and promote the work of Interventions
  • To be part of the On-call Rota
The Ideal Candidate


  • Leadership and management experience
  • In depth and proven experience and knowledge of all  Interventions within the CRC – (Community Payback, Accredited programmes and General offending behaviour RAR)
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the environment in which the CRC operates, taking account of NPS, Courts, Prisons, PCC etc
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of complex public protection arena
  • Sufficiently wide range of Interventions knowledge to inspire confidence and exert influence within partnerships
  • Financial management experience, including resource management and proven ability to achieve efficiencies
  • Proven ability to develop mature, productive relationships with internal and external service providers, key stakeholders and partners
  • Effective communicator and presenter, including ability to chair meetings
  • Strategic thinking, understanding policy and legal context, to make meaningful decisions in complex situations
  • Highly motivated and resilient
  • Ability to manage Service Level Agreements/Local Contracts within governance and performance/QA frameworks


  • Relevant management qualification
  • Experience of criminal justice sector

Contextual or other information

  • This role will require a flexible working pattern and  travel across the southern region to be agreed with regional director
