Accurate and reliable pension administration is essential to supporting our employees, pensioners and scheme members, and as a Senior Pensions Officer you'll play a key role in delivering a high-quality service across the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). Working within our Pensions team, you'll use your technical expertise to manage complex pension casework, provide specialist guidance and help ensure pension benefits are administered accurately and in line with legislation.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pensions professional looking to further develop their technical expertise while making a wider contribution to service improvement and team development. You'll be part of a supportive and collaborative team that is committed to delivering excellent customer service and helping scheme members make informed decisions about their pension benefits.
Our benefitsWhat will you be doing?
You'll be responsible for administering a varied portfolio of pension casework, including reviewing and processing complex and sensitive cases, ensuring pension records remain accurate and that all work is completed in accordance with LGPS regulations, HMRC requirements and relevant legislation. You'll provide expert advice and guidance to scheme members, pensioners, employers and colleagues, helping to resolve queries and explain complex pension matters in a clear and accessible way.
A key aspect of the role will be overseeing high-value LGPS transfers in and out, managing complex transfer cases and ensuring compliance with pension legislation while maintaining exceptional levels of accuracy and customer service. You'll also support quality assurance activities, authorise casework within agreed limits and contribute to service improvement initiatives, projects and regulatory changes across the service.
Alongside your technical responsibilities, you'll act as a source of specialist knowledge, providing mentoring, support and guidance to colleagues while helping to develop processes, procedures and best practice across the team.
About youYou're an experienced pensions professional with a strong understanding of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the legislation that governs pension administration. You have a proven ability to manage complex pension casework, interpret regulations and provide accurate, professional advice to members, employers and colleagues. Experience working within an LGPS administering authority is essential.
You bring excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex pension issues clearly and confidently to non-specialists. Highly organised and detail-focused, you're comfortable managing your own workload, prioritising competing demands and maintaining exceptional standards of accuracy.
You'll enjoy supporting and developing others, sharing your expertise and contributing to continuous improvement. Most importantly, you'll share our THRIVE values and our commitment to delivering an outstanding pensions service that supports members and employers across West Northamptonshire.
