Location: Wolverhampton, WV3 9DH

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Salary: £30,110

What we do

At Compton Care, we provide specialist palliative and end-of-life care for people living with life-limiting conditions, and support for their families, carers and those who matter most to them.

Our care is built around comfort, dignity, compassion and choice, and catering plays an important role in supporting that experience every day.

Our catering team supports patients, families, visitors, volunteers and colleagues across Compton through freshly prepared meals, refreshments in our coffee shops, and hospitality for events. The service combines good food, safe practice and thoughtful planning, helping to meet individual needs while maintaining the high standards expected.

What will you do

As our Head Chef, you will lead a service that is central to daily life at Compton, shaping menus, developing people and ensuring the food we provide reflects the quality, care and attention to detail we are known for.

We have built a hospice kitchen we are proud of, and we are now looking for someone to lead it into its next chapter. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the food service, bring new ideas, support continuous improvement and shape how catering is delivered across Compton. You will have the trust and freedom to make a difference, working with your team to develop the service and support the next generation of chefs and catering colleagues.

You will lead the hospice kitchen, creating nutritious, well-presented food for patients, visitors, colleagues and wider catering services across Compton.

We’re looking for:

  • An experienced Head Chef, Sous Chef or senior chef ready to lead.
  • Someone who is skilled in menu, recipe and spec development, with a sound understanding of food costs.
  • Someone who is confident in food safety, HACCP and allergen management.
  • Someone who enjoys developing others and passing on skills.
  • A people-focused professional, with an understanding of the role food plays in a hospice setting.
  • A Creative, curious and motivated individual who can help develop a catering service you can be proud of.

What’s in it for you?

  • Real ownership of the kitchen and the food service, with the freedom to shape it.
  • Varied work, from hospice menus to events and new catering projects
  • Work where your cooking makes a real difference, every day.

Benefits:

  • 27 days annual leave (excluding bank holidays), increasing with long service.
  • Salary exchange pension scheme with a 5% employer contribution from day one of employment increasing to 7% after 3 years of scheme membership.
  • Death in service benefit at 2x salary.
  • Staff discount across our coffee shops
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Program including unlimited telephone counselling support, 24/7 GP access and a staff discount platform.
  • We are also a Blue Light Card accredited organisation.
