Founded in 1997, GamCare is one of the leading providers of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, provide treatment for anyone who is harmed by gambling, create awareness about safer gambling and treatment, and encourage an effective approach to safer gambling within the gambling industry.

 

The Role

The Senior Strategic Communications Officer role sits within the Policy and Communications Directorate at GamCare, and supports the wider organisation in delivering effective and targeted communications.

Working alongside the Strategic Communications Manager, you will create communications plans to reach target audiences through a range of tactics and activities. These will include press releases, media briefings, web content, blogs, stories for GamCare’s lived experience work, and support with webinars. 

 

About You

As the successful candidate you will have knowledge of or experience of the UK media landscape, and an understanding of political context is also helpful. You will understand how an organisation like GamCare can communicate the messages that will resonate with our stakeholders and all those who would benefit from our services. You will have the ability to communicate complex issues to senior stakeholders in a clear and understandable way. 

You will be enthusiastic and self-motivated and will be able to manage your own workload and meet tight deadlines. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and will know how to engage others and build strong relationships. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Working with the Digital Communications and External Affairs teams to create content for a range of platforms.
  • Managing the Communications inbox and responding to requests in a timely and helpful manner. 
  • With the support of a manager, responding to media enquiries and preparing briefings for spokespeople. 
  • Supporting with the development of engaging, diverse and impactful communications for employees.
  • Working with our lived experience team to bring new stories into our communications work.
  • Monitoring the external environment and relevant media and stakeholder developments across the UK.
