The Cambian Group is one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural and mental health services for children and young adults in the UK. Our services have a specific focus on individuals who present with high severity needs. We provide a broad range of specialist services. These services include specialist education schools and colleges for both day and residential learners, residential care homes and a therapeutic fostering services.

Cambian Dilston College

Cambian Dilston College consists of our main college building, four cottages, five apartments and a community house in a nearby town of Hexham making up our 9 acre rural campus located in Dilston, Northumberland.

The College caters for young people and adults that have additional learning needs and associated complex behaviours that may challenge. We’re now looking to increase the provision of 52 week care placements that can be offered to students.

The key roles for the Inclusion Officer are:

  • To be a team player.
  • Total Communication Resource development across the college
  • Inclusion Support – maximising engagement in enrichment activities
  • Student Voice
  • Marketing and Community Focus

Team Player

The Inclusion Officer needs to work as part of a team and is expected to work effectively and collaboratively with all colleagues to ensure maximum inclusion and engagement for all students.

Total Communication Resource Development

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring high quality resources are developed and produced across the college, in collaboration with all teams, to maximise inclusion and student voice. This includes ensuring that students with autism and other complex needs have access to visual resources and structures to maximise inclusion.

Inclusion Support

The Inclusion Officer is responsible for liaising with cross college staff teams to develop a programme of inclusive enrichment activities which promotes and maximises engagement on site and within the community.

Student Voice

The Inclusion Officer has an important role to play in supporting students to achieve the things that matter to them. This means helping students to make choices and decisions and exploring and accessing opportunities that help them learn and develop a lifestyle that is meaningful and rewarding. The IO will give staff and students the tools to maximise their voice.

Marketing and Community Focus

  • Supporting engagement and planning college wide events such as a Celebration Day, Sports Day etc.
  • Supporting the college to have a better presence in the local community – market stall, enterprise projects.
  • Maintain and update social media platforms to highlight learning activities.
  • Established links with community groups to promote inclusion – Torch Centre, Active Northumberland Link.

The successful candidate…

  • Must have experience working with young people with SEND and Autism.
  • Must have experience working with visuals and communication resources in SEND/ASD provisions.
  • Must have experience of a total communication environment.
  • Must have experience working with InPrint Software.
  • Must have knowledge of Autism and other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and using visual resources and structures to maximise inclusion of learners with autism and other complex needs.
  • Must have Appreciation of the Ofsted and Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection regimes
