We have a fantastic opportunity for a passionate and driven NPD manager to join the product development team at Greggs. This role will report into the Head of Food and Drink and is an additional role to the team due to growth of the business and is a great opportunity to join a highly engaged, passionate and foodie focused team. 

The role will be accountable for leading product development initiatives for new areas identified in our strategy, working with internal and external stakeholders to develop and execute products aligned with the company’s goals and objectives, using market insights and consumer trends.

What you'll do
  • Lead the food work stream of new business projects which will include identifying range requirements, writing product briefs, product submissions and selection to agreed parameters including cost and quality.
  • Support the development of new PLM (product life-cycle management) processes for new business areas as needed, aligned to current processes and ensuring all products are compliant with Greggs' policies and meet required timings and critical paths. 
  • Generate and own nutrition information through the development process for all Greggs products and support our Greggs pledge strategy and targets. 
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver projects, range and products through effective communication and lead project meetings to achieve project deliverables. 
  • Support the set up and running of consumer panels for new business areas
  • Lead market reviews to understand food quality and ranging including gap analysis, trend reviews and analysis of market data to help shape our future ranges. 
  • Ensure that all Greggs products are developed with an understanding of new and current equipment in our shops and complete product testing to ensure our products achieve the required Greggs quality standard. Identify and implement any new processes that are required to support this equipment and ensure fit for purpose for our shop teams to execute. 
  • Lead the quality agenda for the food zone team, identifying approach and leading on reporting to drive quality improvement projects with a particular focus on made in shop and bought in products.
  • Represent the food team on internal working groups as required, to ensure continuous improvement as identified. 
About you

You will fit perfectly into this role if you have experience working at NPD manager level, and are passionate, driven and like to work with autonomy. 

You will: 

  • Have a minimum of 2 years working as an NPD manager, and a minimum of 5 years in food product development, with a passion for delivering exceptional food products and quality with experience gained through working in a food manufacturing / food retail business. It would be desirable if you have experience of managing quality strategies and initiatives.  

  •  Have a strong track record of forming and strengthening trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders with a proven ability to work cross functionally and collaboratively

  • Be a natural influencer and communicator with excellent written & verbal communication skills, with experience presenting to senior stakeholders. 

  • Be a strong project manager with the ability to adapt and flex as projects require, as well as thriving when working under tight timescales. Experience of managing and mitigating risks is desirable. 

  • Be detail oriented and flexible to changing priorities

  • Have a strong understanding of nutrition, health and sustainability

  • Have commercial understanding, including ability to interpret market data, customer insight, trends, costings and performance.  
  • Have the ability to multi task, work with multiple priorities at pace and deliver results within tight timescales

  • Have strong IT skills including Microsoft 365, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams

  • Be self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and using own initiative whilst keeping key stakeholders up to date.
