Main Responsibilities
  • To ensure the efficient and effective running of all Amber production machinery including, but not limited to freezers, baggers, strapper check weighers and metal detectors
  • Ensure the correct set up and efficient operation of the machines throughout the production run.
  • To keep the machinery functioning correctly, that will enable a smooth and efficient production run in line with food safety and health and safety requirements.
  • Review all Pre-start checks have been completed accurately and faults reported and rectified
  • To support the area engineer on basic mechanical service requirements taking an active involvement in the departments PPM systems.
  • Ensure effective operation of all equipment – efficiently reacting to breakdown situations carrying out basic fault finding techniques and effectively communicating any faults to the site Engineers.
  • Organise and Co-ordinate daily machinery changeovers with the Supervisor / Manager, in line with the Daily Production Schedule to create the most efficient utilisation of equipment
  • Maintain a policy of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing and reporting all aspects of machinery efficiency and safety with the relevant Production and Engineering personnel, effecting any changes or improvements necessary to improve operational / safety performance in line with departmental requirements.
  • Maintain and review records regarding the Mechanical Performance of all Machinery - Downtime, Operational Efficiency, Preventative Maintenance, as required within the department.
  • Monitor and maintain a continual visual check throughout the working shift.
  • Report any deficiencies to machinery or product.
  • Ensure the machines are set correctly and in a safe manner to achieve maximum performance and efficiency according to product.
  • Monitor daily yield and report figures to Senior Supervisor
  • Maintain Health and Safety standards in accordance with Company Policy and all relevant legislative documentation – actively encouraging health and safety awareness with all machinery operatives maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Ensure Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are adhered to in full – actively encouraging the ‘clean as you go’ philosophy.
  • Ensure work practices minimise the risk of product contamination
  • Demonstrate ability to problem solve on all equipment and communicate effectively with on site engineering team.
  • To undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required for the effective operation of the factory and unit, these may not be office and/or admin based and may involve working on the production line/yard areas.
The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications

  • Level 2 Food Safety
  • Level 2 Health and Safety
  • Manual handling
  • HACCP level 2
  • IOSH Managing Safely – or willing to work towards this

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in a Food Manufacturing environment
  • Proven previous machine minding / engineering experience – or willingness to learn
  • Working knowledge of machinery and measurement / engineering tools (calipers, spanners, Allan keys etc..)
  • Understanding of production procedures
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, manuals and engineering drawings
  • Experience of delivering continuous improvement in technical & food safety standards
  • Good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Skills

  • Good communication skills and attention to detail, able to influence at all levels
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, in particular Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to communicate professionally at all levels from customers and auditors to factory colleagues and company management
  • Able to prioritise & organise own workload and work to time deadlines
  • Self-motivated and highly resilient
  • Ability to problem solve and influence in a fast paced environment with sometimes conflicting priorities
