Are you passionate about helping students kickstart their careers?

We are looking for a work placement officer to join us in the Careers, Work Experience & Progression team as part of the Student Life Directorate. We lead on activities and strategies which contribute to an outstanding student experience closely aligned with the college and group strategic objectives. 

The work placement officer will be based at Quarry Hill,  a blend of green scenery and modern architecture.  It boasts specialist childcare training resources, digital technology labs, and industry-standard studios and theatres. With cutting-edge facilities and schools that pride themselves on industry links, Quarry Hill is unrivalled in the region.  It’s a mere 5 minute walk from the bus station.

Working with students studying in our Childcare, Health & Social Care & ESOL courses, employers and curriculum departments to support the successful completion of work placements.  Working with the business engagement team & curriculum to ensure placements are ​​allocated appropriately to students. 

This is a part-time position. We can offer a degree of flexibility regarding how you fulfill these hours. Please state in your supporting statement what hours/days you are able to work.

What You Will Do
  • Support students prior to placements by identifying their skills, qualities, interests and aspirations and matching them to appropriate work placements sourced by the business engagement team.
  • Delivering placement based sessions to students.
  • Supporting students to arrange pre-placement visits, agreeing expectations with students and employers.
  • Be a point of contact for both students and employers during the placement.
  • Managing your own caseload of students.
  • Undertake a range of general administration duties relating to the role.
  • Be willing to travel across the Leeds City Region to support placements.
About You
  • Understanding of employability skills needed for a work placement, and how to equip students with these skills.
  • Experience of working with young people in a group and one to one basis.
  • An ability to develop effective working relationships with young people, college staff, employers and other stakeholders.
  • Enthusiastic, positive and understanding of students’ needs. Initiative, self-motivation and the ability to persuade, influence and motivate others.
  • A willingness to work flexibly both independently and as part of a team.
  • Would be desirable if you had an understanding of 16-18 education and the T-Level agenda.
