We’re excited to be expanding our Prudential Risk Oversight Team and we have an opportunity for you to join us as our new Prudential Risk Lead. In this role you’ll ensure the Skipton Group remains regulatory compliant in all areas of prudential risk as well as having a strategic impact through the provision of assurance to senior stakeholders and the regulator.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job.

Skipton Building Society is the fourth biggest building society in the UK and we're a mutual organisation. This means that we don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members. Not only that, but we have the strength of Skipton Group behind us to ensure all of our Group entities are aligned to our member’s needs: financing their homes (Home Financing), making their money work harder (Money) and helping them buy and sell homes (Estate Agency, Connell's Group).

Skipton's purpose remains the same: to help build a better society. Therefore, our Group is founded on who we are, what we stand for, and the difference we make.

Our colleagues say Skipton is a great place t o work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.

Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

You will be joining the Prudential Risk Oversight team within our wider Group Risk function. The team provides second line oversight and support across a range of prudential risk disciplines including capital planning and reporting, climate risk, stress testing, regulatory returns, market and liquidity risk. The Prudential Risk Oversight team works closely with colleagues in Finance, Treasury, Credit Risk, Risk Modelling, Compliance and Internal Audit. We influence strategic decisions at the highest levels of the organisation and help to inform the Skipton Group’s response to emerging regulatory expectations.

What’s In It For You?

Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including;

  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • 25 days standard annual leave + bank holidays + rising 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days
  • Holiday trading scheme allowing the ability to buy and sell additional annual leave days
  • Matching employer pension contribution (up to 10% per annum)
  • A commitment to training and development
  • Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
  • 3 paid volunteering days per annum
  • Diverse and inclusive colleague networks available for you to join including our Carers and Pride Alliance groups
  • We care about your health and wellbeing – we provide a range of benefits that support this including cycle to work initiative and discounted gym membership

What Will You Be Doin g?

You’ll plan and lead second line of defence reviews over key areas of prudential risk, including key disclosures, regulatory returns, stress testing outputs and impact assessments associated with emerging regulation. With a keen eye for detail, you will produce high-quality reports and communicate findings in a concise, business focused way to a range of stakeholders. It goes without saying you’ll need to keep your knowledge of prevailing and emerging prudential regulation up to date.

What Do We Need From You?

We’re looking for a prudential risk expert with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements, to critically assess our prudential risk processes and communicate in a succinct, impactful way to non-experts. You’ll be able to present technical information to a non-technical audience and build and maintain relationships with a range of stakeholders, providing constructive feedback and challenge where required.

The key competencies for this role are:

  • Experience working with complex prudential regulatory risks
  • Detailed knowledge of the prevailing and emerging prudential regulatory environment in which the Skipton Group operates
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Stakeholder management at all levels
  • Knowledge of retail and commercial mortgage lending processes
  • Experience providing assurance and/or oversight would be advantageous
