We are currently recruiting for an outstanding Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the team at our new service; Kenny House (Acute, PICU and Rehab Female Mental Health) opening in September 2024. This post holder would work within a new Occupational Therapy team and multi-disciplinary team based on one of three wards at site.

Base: Acute ward, Cygnet Kenny House, Wester Hill Road, Oldham, OL8 2QH.

Hours: 40 hours per week 

Salary: £36,808 - £44,323 p/a (Depends on experience)

Contract: Permanent

Cygnet Kenny House:

Cygnet Kenny House is our new Acute, PICU and Mental Health Rehabilitation hospital for women. The service will be opening in September 2024.

The service is split across three wards (Acute, PICU and Rehabilitation); the specialist high support inpatient rehabilitation service for women who have severe and enduring mental illness, the acute ward which provides a safe and stabilising environment for women who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission and the PICU service which caters for emergency admissions for women experiencing an acute period of mental illness that cannot be managed in an open acute inpatient setting.

The new 16 bed female emergency acute inpatient service will provide a safe and stabilising environment for individuals who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission.

The ethos of the acute ward is to assess and treat women in the least restrictive environment and planning for discharge in a robust and timely fashion. With a focus on stabilisation, we support individuals to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

Our teams work closely and collaboratively with individuals, their families and the referrer to provide a seamless pathway from referral to discharge. Our approach is recovery focused and supported by a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, contributing to shorter lengths of stay.

Main duties:

Clinical: You and your team will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction for 44 people (over the 3 services). You will work with a full multidisciplinary team (on site) in a coordinated way to support each service user develop their skills and move through our clinical model of care from admission to discharge. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will provide assessment and treatment of occupational dysfunction. You will promote the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them being well in life.

Leadership: You would report directly to the Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist onsite. You would also hold leadership and management responsibilities of the Occupational Therapy service, providing supervision for any junior Occupational Therapists within Kenney House.  You will be required to share leadership responsibility and consistently contribute to the site wide Occupational Therapy provision.

This role includes opportunities for learning, development and research, supported by a robust appraisal and supervision structure based on RCOT’s Career Development Framework. At Cygnet Healthcare, we have a strong occupational focus through support and direction from Clinical Leads, Regional Leads and our Occupational Therapy Directors. We use evidence-based practice within each of our service lines, as defined by our clinical steering groups, of which Occupational Therapists play a key role.

Under the leadership of our Occupational Therapy Directors we support over 170 Occupational Therapists. Working together as a large team we provide support to each other across the group, with the opportunity to be part of specialist interest groups & become involved in service development.
