Autism Anglia is a well-established independent charity. We have opportunities available for Awake Night Support Workers on a part-time basis. Working from our Supported Living Services in Colchester, Essex.

 

The successful Awake Night Support Worker will assist people who are within the autistic spectrum. Providing night-time support, remaining awake, alert and responsive to the people we support. Completing the night-time cleaning rota, laundry and ironing duties and other designated night-time tasks as required. 

 

This role is well suited to someone with previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant, or Carer. Caring for Autistic individuals, or those with Learning Disabilities in a healthcare setting. 

 

Autism Anglia is dedicated to providing ongoing training and supervision, continuing professional development and support as well as an extensive induction on commencement of employment.


 Supported Living

Autism Anglia’s Supported Living service supports individuals across multiple locations in the Colchester and Greater Colchester areas. Offering one-to-one support and enabling autistic people, some with additional Learning Disabilities to live as independently as possible. We work together to enable access to the wider community. Every Supported Living service is located in the community and is either a housing association property, privately rented or owned by Autism Anglia. Services range from one to four adults per property, depending on suitability and need.

Support Workers in our Supported Living service recognise each individual’s aspirations and needs.  Working towards enabling individuals to achieve their own life plans by developing life skills through person-centred, strengths-based planning. This will include being actively involved in empowering them to make individual choices about their everyday living. 

 

The role: 

  • Providing support to the individuals we support 
  • Ensuring safeguarding vulnerable adults procedures are an integral part of the working practices of the establishment 
  • Support with personal care, health and hygiene with a focus on developing life skills. 
  • Contribute to and develop appropriate support plans and risk assessments required for night-time routines and any specific behaviours. Maintain these records in partnership with the staff team and line manager.  
  • Responsible for receipt, storage and administration of medication and maintaining accurate record keeping as delegated. 
  • Prepare comprehensive handover reports including the night-time section of daily records for the oncoming staff, which for the oncoming staff. 
  • To adhere to the service cleaning rota and assist with the laundry duties including ironing.
  • Depending on the needs of the individuals we support, participate and support individuals with activities e.g. watching a film, reading, computer games, and sensory equipment  
      

Applications are welcome from Awake Night Support workers with the following:  

  • Previous experience working as a Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant or Carer, preferably with Autism or Learning Disabilities
  • Ability to identify the needs, wishes, and aspirations of individuals who may have communication needs.
  • Experience in working with people with Autism, Learning Disabilities and intensive behavioural support.
  • Experienced with activity co-ordination, knowledge of opportunities in surrounding areas
  • Good range of communication skills 
  • Experience working within a health and social care environment. 
  • It is essential that the successful applicant holds a full driving licence.
