We are currently looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our high performing finance team. Although the role is based at our Solihull Head Office, we are currently employing a flexible, hybrid working model 2 days per week in the office.

Main Responsibilities

The Assistant Accountant will support the team in partnering with key business stakeholders on specific focus areas. Assist with the provision and reporting of effective financial information and management accounting at each month end and through the month as required. Working as part of a highly competent team, assisting with the month end close, working closely with Business Finance teams. Contributing to the team’s high quality output and maintain accurate recording of transactions and ensure accounting is in line with CRH accounting policies and accounting standards, with the support of Assistant Manager and other team members.

  • Preparation of and posting of journals.
  • Support Assistant Manager and other team members to deliver month end close.
  • Completion of high quality balance Sheet reconciliations, in accordance with guidelines and timetables.
  • With support of Assistant Manager, working closely with business unit finance teams, ensuring full understanding and documentation of any balances and timely resolution of any issues, including managing expectation of any P&L impact.
  • Assist team with preparation for quarterly Balance Sheet Reviews with business unit finance
  • Assist with preparation of reporting as required for own area of focus including quarterly financial reporting
  • Input into Sox controls as required.
  • Supporting both internal and external audit.
  • Support Assistant Manager with cross team working across R2R and SSC as required including any inputs required to Statutory Accounts or Tax processes
  • Undertake any adhoc analysis or tasks as required.
The Ideal Candidate

Ideally you will be an experienced part qualified accounts assistant ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT) or qualified by experience.  There is a study package on offer with this role.

  • A motivated individual with a track record of working to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Can demonstrate what good looks like when it comes to narrating and evidencing journals and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Self starter, able to prioritise and manage your own workload effectively
  • Works with a sense of urgency as required and able to escalate issues confidently
  • Customer service orientated
  • SAP system knowledge is highly desirable
  • BlackLine system knowledge is desirable
  • Effective communication skills with people at all levels of the business
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills due to complex [big] data
  • Problem solver with a strong analytical ability
  • Tenacity for accuracy and attention to detail
