The Role

Combining your love of interior décor and a devotion to delivering the standards of customer experience expected by John Lewis customers, as a Team Leader for the floor room, you’ll help their creative dreams become reality - and lead, engage and inspire a small team to do precisely the same.

In a nutshell, this role is a combination of setting exacting standards and ensuring the team are delivering, as well as being hands on, on the shop floor personally using your product knowledge and expertise to help customers select the perfect product and services for their interior project, converting enquiries into sales.

A typical day might look like this:

• Setting the bar for the team and playing your part in ensuring the store and product samples are impeccably presented both front and back of house.
• Executing the day to day management of the in-store team, planning resources and creating an environment where colleagues are empowered, inspired and devoted to delivering an exceptional customer experience.
• Being a role model, leading by example, and supporting the Cluster Manager to engage, develop and motivate the team to drive sales and deliver successful commercial results.
• Creating an environment for the store and team that means they can provide helpful advice and guidance for customers in a charming, engaging and relaxed way, whether that’s in store, online or via other communication channels. 
• Engendering a customer centric culture, ensuring the team own the customer’s end-to-end journey; applying attention to detail throughout and ensuring the customer has a smooth and seamless experience from all those involved in turning their creativity into reality. 
• Working closely with the Cluster Manager to drive the commercial levers of the business, maximising sales and profitability.
• Supporting the Cluster Manager in managing the resources, retention and performance of the team, addressing under-performance quickly.

Who you are

Charming, authentic and uniquely you; you’ll have some previous customer service experience from a retail or premium environment. You’ll find it easy to create smile-worthy moments, are self-driven and can build trusting relationships. It would be even better if you:

• Have a demonstrable love of interior design/textiles, home trends and styles, or previous experience in a design-led environment
• Have some supervisory or team leading experience
• Love to take responsibility for delivering strong commercial results (including your own personal sales targets)
• Have some previous experience of coaching, mentoring or training others
• Are reasonably tech savvy - a working knowledge of standard Microsoft packages would be ideal

You’ll find us inside 34 John Lewis stores across the UK, as well as our own flagship store on Tottenham Court Road (right in heart of the high-end home and interior stores/concessions) in central London.
