An opportunity is available for a Transport Workshop Controller based at Swansea.  

You will be accountable to the Transport Area Controller for the efficient control and running of the Transport Workshop. You will manage a team and spend up to 30% of the time undertaking supervisory and work programming duties with the rest of the time being spent undertaking Workshop activities

*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Our Transport teams ensure that the National Grid Distribution fleet operation is on the road 24/7, 365 days a year.  That means taking responsibility for safety, ensuring legal compliance and delivering it all cost-effectively. 

As well as asset management, the team also oversees driver support and training and strives to ensure National Grid Distribution employees enjoy a service that enables them to work effectively and efficiently.

Main Responsibilities
  • Ensuring the efficient and cost effective operation of the Workshop
  • Responsible for the quality and productivity of own team's work; setting targets and monitoring own and team's performance; ensuring high standards and improving the image of the Workshop
  • Developing, motivating, coaching and training individuals and the wider team
  • Controlling and monitoring expenditure against the Workshop budget
  • Setting Priorities and programming of the team's work
  • Ensuring that Workshop activities and team members comply with Company policies and procedures and health & safety legislation.
The Ideal Candidate

You will have considerable mechanical experience and have a Level 2 or 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent qualification.  A full driving licence is essential and holding a valid LGV (Class C) driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential as training can be provided.

You must be reliable, well organised and able to work as part of a small team as well as using your own initiative, representing the company positively at all times.

Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
