The service you will work in….

The Oremi Day Centre service delivers person-centered and holistic support to service users, aged over 18, who have a severe and/or enduring mental health need and living in Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea which includes targeted services to service users from African, Caribbean and Arabic speaking heritage. Our service enables users to avoid, and in particular to reduce the need for, prolonged hospital admissions and long-term dependency on mental health services.

We promote recovery and prevent social exclusion among service users with mental health support needs and offer a wide range of group activities that are tailored to the service users' needs. Group activities are run by our in-house team of experienced and trained Group Facilitators, by sessional tutors and in co-production with service users. The overall aim of support provision is preventing hospital admissions and facilitating earlier discharge, promoting recovery, social inclusion and helping service users to maximise their independence and wellbeing, access to employment, training.

A day in this role looks like….

As a Group Activities Coordinator at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Mental Health and Complex Needs service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • To provide management support and advice to Group Facilitators, Volunteers, Social Work Students to help them develop their role in providing support to service users.
  • To lead, motivate and empower the team to effectively deliver community based, person-cantered and holistic support to service users.
  • Responding to complex casework queries and enquiries, attending meetings, building networks and partnerships across Hestia, RBKC, Westminster and beyond as appropriate.
  • To lead, develop, motivate, and support the team to meet cultural needs of service users, achieve the service objectives and deliver Hestia's vision.
  • To ensure that specific services and activities are provided to meet the needs of African, Caribbean, and Arabic speaking users.
  • To oversee staff recruitment, induction, supervise and appraise staff, identify training needs, manage the disciplinary and grievance procedures, and ensure that all tasks are carried out within Hestia's policies, procedures, and good practice guides.

We are looking for candidates who bring a combination of passion, expertise, and dedication to the table. To excel in this role, you should possess:

  • An und erstanding of the needs, perceptions & engagement of African, Caribbean, and Arabic speaking service users with mental health needs; including those who are not engaged with services.
  • Experience of working with African, Caribbean, and Arabic speaking people with mental health care & support needs.
  • Experience of implementing a co-production model of involvement with users meeting their cultural needs.
  • Experience at using local mechanisms in place to gather users feedback and meaningfully involve them in service delivery.
  • Ability and experience of managing a service within budget.
  • Excellent knowledge of Housing, Community Care, Mental health, Health and Safety and welfare benefits legislation.
  • Ability to positively promote the organisation at external events, including delivering presentations and creating marketing material.
  • Experience of implementing and maintaining good Equality & Diversity practice.
  • Able to use computer systems to create accurate reports and able to assess and audit staff ability to use computer systems to record client data accurately and to a high standard.
