As Hygiene Manager, you will be responsible for keeping a clean and clear workspace for all Bigham’s employees. Our Hygiene Teams not only consistently clean throughout the day but also conduct a deep clean of our equipment each evening to ensure that we maintain high hygiene standards. As the Hygiene Shift Manager, you would be responsible for multi-skilled teams ensuring the delivery of the highest standards of hygiene within the site.

Main Responsibilities

What will you do

  • Lead and manage the Hygiene team through role model behaviour, ensuring targets are clear, results achieved, displayed and communicated
  • Manage the ordering and stock control of hygiene consumables, chemicals and laundry,
  • Maintain detailed cleaning instructions and schedules for every hygiene activity that meet the requirements of the BRC food safety standard
  • Responsible for the effective delivery of the site laundry service
  • Conduct compliance audits / inspections of internal hygiene standards and documentation
  • Manage the provision of hygiene chemicals and dosing equipment on site - to include periodic chemical dosing checks, maintenance of equipment and to oversee the safe storage, decant, transport and use of chemicals on site
  • Analyses problems, accounts for variances, drives for root cause to deliver on KPI’s
  • Understand the labour budget and work with your team to achieve each day. 
  • Ensure clear ways of working and training standards are in place for all activities, and that these are supported by a training plan to engage and empower the team to become multi-skilled
  • Provide training and awareness for all hygiene and waste handling staff in all procedures relevant to their role
  • Drive a culture of change, by engaging, coaching and developing the Bigham’s teams
  • KPI reporting / systems and supporting a lean Kitchen environment (visual Kitchen)
  • Manage the team rota, Time Management system, holidays and absenteeism
  • GMP standards delivered at all times with RCA performed by exception on failure
  • Liaise with Technical Team on any Pest Control related issues,
  • Complete RTW’s, shift reports and other paperwork in a timely manner
  • Give regular feedback to the team on personal and team performance through team briefs, progress reviews and 1-1’s
  • Through effective management of the hygiene team, ensure that Bigham’s is kept clean and tidy – throughout production, all external areas, offices, toilets and cafe.
  • Conduct review of COSHH assessments, risk assessments and document safe systems of work for all hygiene tasks
  • Ensure that the hygiene team work safely within the COSSH guidelines and follow the appropriate training
  • Ensure that all equipment is tested and operational post clean and that defined autonomous maintenance tasks are completed effectively.
  • Ensure cleaning processes minimise our environmental impact and effluent plan loading
  • Establish and maintain effective waste segregation to improve recycling opportunities
  • Ensure the transfer of waste from the production kitchen and other collection points within Bigham’s, ensuring waste segregation and correct recycling procedures are followed.
The Ideal Candidate

Knowledge of UK Food Safety Regulations: Comprehensive understanding of UK food safety laws and regulations, including EU regulations where applicable, such as the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Hygiene Regulations 2006, ensuring full compliance in all aspects of food production.

HACCP Implementation: Proficiency in implementing and managing Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) systems, including conducting hazard analyses, developing control measures, and monitoring procedures, to ensure the safety of food products.

Staff Training and Development: Experience in training and developing Hygiene Team on proper sanitation protocols, including cleaning techniques, chemical handling, and personal hygiene practices, to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the Kitchen.

Auditing and Compliance Management: Ability to conduct internal hygiene audits and inspections, to ensure adherence to hygiene standards and regulations and address any non-compliance issues effectively.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Proven track record in implementing continuous improvement initiatives in hygiene practices, including the introduction of new technologies, processes, and best practices, to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and safety in food production.
