Cygnet Hospital Fountains

Cygnet Healthcare is seeking to recruit a full time, experienced and motivated Assistant Psychologist to Cygnet Fountains in Blackburn. This role will be working 40 hours per week from Monday to Friday. 

Cygnet, one of the UK’s largest provider of specialist services in education, mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities, is looking for a dedicated, caring individual to join the company as an Assistant Psychologist. We work in close partnership with the National Health Service, providing a step down service for NHS patients detained in secure facilities or acute settings. Cygnet emphasis on intensive psychiatric rehabilitation provides clients with a step-by-step programme to return to the community or suitable long-term placement.

Cygnet Fountains

Cygnet Fountains is a 32 bed hospital specialising in psychiatric mental health rehabilitation for men. It provides state-of-the-art facilities and a multi-disciplinary treatment programme designed to assist patients with their return to independent living. The service has a dedicated clinical team to provide a multi-disciplinary input including occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry and nursing led interventions. Vincent Court step-down service is also linked to Fountains and provides support to those who are stepping down from the hospital environment to the community.

Job Role

You will be an enthusiastic and committed Psychology graduate joining a progressive Multi-Disciplinary team supporting the delivery of a high quality psychology service for men with severe and enduring mental health needs within an in-patient setting. The successful candidate will, ideally, have previous experience within the role of Assistant Psychologist and you will have the ability to work within a busy Multi Disciplinary Team under the supervision of a qualified psychologist. The role involves the administration, scoring and report writing of psychometric assessments, standardised risk assessments, clinical formulation and individual and group interventions.

Candidate Profile

You will be a strong team player, confident, motivated and well organised. You will have a good understanding of the role of therapeutic boundaries and the importance of evidence-based interventions. Patience and commitment are essential, but above all you’ll be someone with a genuine desire to help others. You will have a good degree in Psychology (2:1 or above) and will have experience of working with individual experiencing mental health difficulties. Previous experience of working within in-patient mental health services and settings is essential and, ideally, you will have previous experience as an Assistant Psychologist within the field of mental health.

Successful candidates will have to meet the person specification in order to be offered this post.
