Spring Hill School

Spring Hill School is situated in the outskirts of Ripon in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire with easy access to the Yorkshire Dales and seaside towns such as Whitby. The site covers over 30 acres and offers fantastic facilities for learning and leisure. The location of our school allows our children and young people to take advantage of being close to the local community to develop important life and social skills.

Spring Hill School supports students aged 8-18 with a primary diagnosis of Autism. Some of our young people have associated Mental Health and Complex Needs and come to Spring Hill to gain valuable guidance, life skills, qualifications and confidence to support their journey towards independence.

Purpose of the role

To support the Registered Manager in leading, coordinating and monitoring practice within the residential setting. Leading a team of residential support workers to ensure care, support and services are provided to children and young people in accordance with aims, objectives and policies of Cambian Spring Hill School.

To provide guidance, support and encouragement to our young people working closely with the Education team and MDT.

The role is about working as part of a team to maintain a stable, nurturing and caring environment that puts the health, safety and welfare of our young people first.

Key Duties and Responsibilities of the role

To support in the overall day to day management of the residential setting.
To lead shifts as directed, planning and implementing activities and ensuring the safety of young people at all times, and to ‘act up’ in the absence of a Team Leader and Manager to ensure the appropriate delegation of tasks during shifts.
To contribute to the development of a high-quality residential provision including taking an active role in internal monitoring processes.
To support in the audit, coordination, planning and implementation of care plans within the residential setting.
To assist in effective management or rota and shift planning.
To manage and supervise staff, including social work students on work placements. Completing appraisals and supporting probationary progress.
To build professional and trusting relationships with children, young people, staff, other professionals and outside agencies as well as to disengage from these appropriately.
To do everything possible to safeguard children and young people from any form of abuse from staff, visitors, the public or each other.
To attend, lead and take an active part in meetings as required.
To maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment to live and work in – this will involve domestic duties.
To understand individuals specific needs and help meet those needs following all policies and procedures.
To assist children and young people with their medical and welfare needs which may include the administration of emergency ‘when required’ medication.
To support personal cleanliness, general hygiene and appearance, this may include intimate care, following individual care plans.
To keep accurate written records/reports as required.
To be a Key Worker for one or more children/young people as required.
To develop targets and strategies with key children and young people to promote their independence, social, emotional and mental health.
To support children and young people towards managing their own behaviour by using the skills and approved approaches/frameworks.
To promote equality, acknowledging individual differences and uphold the rights and responsibilities of children, young people and staff.
To attend all training as required and be prepared to achieve qualifications appropriate to the role at any particular time.
To actively promote learning
Attend work reliably and punctually and to follow a work pattern as required in fulfilling the role which will include early mornings, evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
To work overtime if the need arises to maintain the Quality Standard.
To be proactive in planning and supporting transition with children and young people.
