What is the job role?

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Practitioner to join our Emergency Duty Team on a permanent part time basis.

The Emergency Duty Team (EDT) provides an out of hours emergency service between 5pm and 8.30am throughout the week, including weekends. The team responds to safeguarding concerns relating to children, young people, their families and adults. They also provide an out of hours housing service.

This is a part-time 18.5 hour post, we currently have weekend hours available with room for some negotiation depending on availability. 

As a Senior Practitioner, you will be responsible for:

  • Assessing and managing risk in complex and urgent situations.
  • Providing professional advice and guidance to other agencies and professionals.
  • Supervising and supporting other staff members in the team.
  • Ensuring high standards of practice and record keeping.
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of the service.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

The children, families, young people and adults we work with come from a variety of backgrounds and in order to deliver the best possible care it is vital that we have a workforce that represents and understands their unique experiences and perspectives. Within our team men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds are currentlyunder-represented across our middle-management team, as a result we would like to encourage both men and people from minority ethnic backgrounds to apply for this post.  This does not prevent any other applicants with a protected characteristic or a non-protected characteristic from applying.

We are looking for a qualified and experienced Social Worker who has:

  • A current registration with Social Work England.
  • Good knowledge and post-qualifying experience in children's or adults' services.
  • A sound knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
  • A proven ability to work under pressure and make sound decisions.
