We are looking for a Data Protection Officer who will be responsible for providing a data protection advisory service to Cygnet. The post requires a highly motivated individual with excellent written and verbal communications skills who is capable of working both alone and as part of a growing dedicated team.

The Data Protection team provides detailed and complex advice concerning (but not limited to):

  • Management and Investigation of Data Security and Protection Incidents.
  • Data Sharing Arrangements and Data Processing Agreements with Third-Party Organisations.
  • Lead on evidence required for the NHS Digital Data Security and Protection Toolkit.
  • Advice on complex compliance issues with regards to Data Protection Regulation, The National Data Guardian Report, and wider policy and legislative framework.
  • Provision of administration support to the Data Security and Protection group.
  • Stakeholder engagement, including liaison with the wider business at all levels, the Information Commissioner's Office, and the organisations Caldicott Guardian.

Role duties include...

  • The Data Protection Officer will support the organisation in promoting adherence to Data Protection and Security best practice within the organisation
  • The Data Protection Officer will manage a team of people looking after Subject Access Requests and other Data Protection workloads.
  • Chair of the Data Protection and Security Group
  • In doing so, they shall operationally lead a range of Data Protection and Security related duties, including:
    • Data Protection and Security Training Compliance.
    • Data Protection Compliance in terms of new systems, new processes, and support for data processes.
    • Management and review of Data Protection and Security incidents.
    • Management and review of Data Protection and Security complaints.
    • Facilitation and completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments.
    • Ensuring we have up to date and compliant Data Protection and Security Policies.
    • Completion of Data Protection Audit templates and facilitating audits when required.
  • Any other tasks as deemed appropriate that fall in line with being a Data Protection expert.

Corporate Records Best Practice...

  • The post holder will help the team ensure that staff at all levels of the organisation are provided with appropriate DSP training. This includes training and delivery of compliance workshops for Data Protection and other related legislation.
  • Working as a key member of the Data Protection Team they will be responsible for provision of an data protection advice service to the organisation:
  • Following up and managing Data & Security breaches, analysing & reporting these incidents to the Data Protection and Security Group.
  • In the case of more serious incidents immediate reporting of such to the Digital Services Director.
  • Providing advice and support to Information Asset Owners on the provision of robust records of processing.
  • The post-holder will provide project support for Data Protection initiatives including maintenance of project documentation and monitoring and recording risks and issue.
