Your role as an Accountant:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Accountant to join our team at HMNB Portsmouth in initially supporting the running of mess accounts in adherence to client financial policies, after which the role will be expanded to include supporting the Admin Hun and Sodexo Finances.

As an Accountant, you will be a key point of contact for both internal and external stakeholders, effective communication will be paramount. You will liaise closely with Mess Managers to facilitate the timely delivery of required reports and ensure alignment with organisational goals. Your proficiency in accounting software and regulatory knowledge will be instrumental in maintaining compliance with both Sodexo and Mess policies, as well as legislative requirements.

Moreover, your role extends beyond mere accounting tasks; you will play a vital role in managing supplier relationships, overseeing subcontractors, and maintaining excellent client/customer relationships. Your ability to navigate complex financial landscapes with discretion and strict confidentiality will be crucial in upholding data protection and security requirements. You will take an active role in the professional development of your team, providing guidance and support as they progress in their careers. By mentoring emerging apprenticeships for AAT Level 2, you will contribute to the growth and development of future finance professionals while solidifying our team's expertise.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential:

  • Recognised Accountancy qualification to Level 4 AAT.
  • Accounting software experience.
  • Knowledge of Charities and VAT regulations.
  • Excellent standard of literacy and numeracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Accurate data entry skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Customer service focused with a commitment to providing prompt and responsive service.
  • Ability to self-manage workload effectively to achieve requirements.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of Sage 50 V28.
  • Experience of working within a military environment.
  • Previous experience in a client-facing role.
