Are you passionate about ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, environment and quality across all aspects of operations? 

Join us as our National Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) Manager, where you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding Vp’s commitment to excellence.

Reporting directly to the Director of HSEQ, you will provide leadership, direction and support to the Hire Station Ltd (Vp Brandon Hire Station, Vp ESS & Vp MEP) in upholding stringent adherence to HSE legislation and company policies. Your expertise will be instrumental in navigating legislative changes, ensuring company-wide compliance, and spearheading initiatives to promote a culture of safety and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating across the business to ensure compliance with HSE legislation and company policies, fostering a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Keeping abreast of legislative changes and updating business policies and procedures accordingly to ensure companywide compliance.
  • Serving as the primary liaison with CQMS, nurturing a strong partnership to maintain our standards and values.
  • Attending industry-leading events like HAE Technical and HireTrain, positioning our company as a forward-thinking influencer in our sector.
  • Leading regular meetings and training sessions for our branch Safety Guardians, offering guidance and support in their crucial roles.
  • Working towards achieving and maintaining relevant external certifications, demonstrating our commitment to excellence.
  • Investigating near misses, identifying root causes, and implementing proactive measures to prevent future accidents.
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders to address major accidents and ensure practical steps are taken to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintaining comprehensive accident reports and analysis to drive continuous improvement in safety performance.
  • Upholding environmental and quality processes in line with ISO procedures, supporting our corporate sustainability goals.
  • Developing and implementing robust branch compliance and a workshop quality audit programme.
  • Utilising technology to streamline audit processes and effectively track actionable insights.
  • Ensuring all new equipment meets Vp’s high standards and complies with regulatory requirements.
  • Identifying training needs across the branch network and coordinating internal and external training initiatives.
  • Fostering employee engagement and facilitating effective training and development initiatives to enhance role effectiveness in health, safety, quality, and sustainability.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Leadership Excellence: Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities, fostering a collaborative and inspiring environment aligned with the company's strategy and goals.
  • Senior Level Competency: Exhibit the ability to operate at a senior level within a multi-site, customer-focused environment with regionalised operations.
  • Experience: Bring at least five years of experience in a senior Health, Safety, Environment & Quality management position, ideally within a similar business setting.
  • Qualifications: Hold a NEBOSH General Certificate as a minimum requirement.
  • Relationship Building: Possess excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, both internally and externally, with a track record of being a team player and highly motivated individual.
  • Organisational Skills: Display exceptional organisational and time management skills, demonstrating the ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Communication Skills: Communicate clearly and concisely, with strong verbal and written communication skills, paying close attention to detail and producing engaging communications.
  • Analytical Abilities: Showcase proven analytical and numerical evaluation skills to effectively review and respond to data and trends.
  • Compliance Advocacy: Understand and advocate for the importance of Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality compliance.
  • Driving Licence: Hold a full UK driving licence.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the construction industry is preferred but not essential.
  • Certifications: Possess certifications such as IRCA Lead Auditor course certification, NEBOSH Environmental Certificate, and Certificate of Professional Competence in Road Haulage (CPC).
