We are currently looking for a Distribution Supervisor to join our friendly team based at Tarmac Birtley in Co Durham. This position is a fixed term contract for 12 months providing maternity cover. This role is commutable from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton and the surrounding areas.

The role of Distribution Supervisor is a varied, complex and rewarding position that requires strong leadership skills, commercial acumen, flexibility and dedication for service excellence. The successful candidate will report directly to the Distribution Manager.

As Distribution Supervisor you will:

• Manage the day to day logistics within the Aggregates and Asphalt Distribution Team, based at Birtley 
• Managing 10 Customer Service Coordinators to ensure customer service is maintained
• Liaising with internal teams (technical, operations, national logistics team, sales, customer service) to ensure efficient running of the operational business both face to face and via Teams meetings
• Ensuring optimum customer service – driving efficiencies and helping all functions to reduce costs
• Implementing training and skills development for the Aggregates and Asphalt Distribution Team
• Liaison with key customers to enhance and support their forward programme management
• Key link in the relationship between our contract haulage fleet and the distribution team
• Work towards KPIs to ensure customer service optimised and set KPIs for direct reports

Suitable candidates for the role of Distribution Supervisor will have strong experience managing a small team within a Distribution, Logistics or Customer Service Supervisory role. You may perhaps be a Transport Planner (or similar role) looking to progress into a supervisory role then this could suit you!

The ideal candidate for the role of Distribution Supervisor will have:

• Proven customer service skills – dealing with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of seniority
• Experience of working against KPI’s and meeting strict deadlines
• Strong supervisory experience, ideally gained within either a Distribution, Logistics or Customer Service environment
• Proven ability to identify talent and further develop your team
• Excellent organisational and administrative skills
• Proven time management skills
• Effective communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to work under pressure
• Team player
• Ability to identify and address problems in a logical solution focused manner
• Good computer skills (including Word, Excel and experience of in-house systems)
