This a Full-Time position Monday to Friday, ideally based at our Head Office in Skipton however the role of Head of Operational Risk can accommodate a hybrid working pattern with a minimum of 2 days per week based in Skipton. Travel to regional offices in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, and Bracknell will be required quarterly as well as periodic attendance at client audits and new business meetings from an observational perspective.

Skipton Business Finance are hiring for a Head of Enterprise Risk (1st Line).

Do you have the experience to play a critical role in ensuring that our organisation operates in accordance with documented requirements and manages operational risk at the front line?

This position demands a broad understanding of enterprise-wide risks preferably within the financial services sector including operational risk and financial crime risks such as fraud money laundering, sanctions screening, anti-bribery and corruption and tax evasion. Responsible for management and oversight of risk assessment practices, and the ability to implement robust strategies to mitigate potential risks at the e nterprise level. The job holder will be responsible for drafting policies and procedures and embedding best practice and a risk management culture across the organisation to ensure SBF meets the highest standards.

The role of Head of Operational Risk is paying up to £70,000 per annum depending on experience as well as a Car Allowance of £6,000 per annum.

What Will You Be Doing

  • Leading the development and enhancement of first-line risk-related policies, procedures, and controls to include Financial Crime, AML, Bribery and Corruption and Operational Risk.

  • Providing relevant committees (e.g., Executive Risk Committee) with regular reporting and monitoring of relevant operational and enterprise risk data e.g., risk profile, risk themes and events.

  • Function as lead on SBF 2nd and 3rd line audits, coordinating information flow and internal resource allocation as required.

  • Conducting comprehensive risk and control reviews to ensure that internal policies and controls within the first line o f defence are robust and appropriate and the requirements of the Skipton Group Risk Framework.

  • Identifying, assessing, and managing enterprise-wide risks within front-line business units, and developing risk mitigation strategies tailored to the financial services environment.

  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to embed a culture of compliance and effective risk management at the front line.

  • Providing initiative-taking guidance and support to first-line business units on compliance and enterprise-wide risk-related matters, including the development of remediation plans when necessary.

  • Designing and delivering targeted training programs to enhance awareness and understanding of compliance and risk best practices within the financial services context.

  • Consulting with regulators and be responsible for any regulatory returns where required.

  • Consulting with SBS Fin Crime on any investigations and NCA reports.

What Do We Need From You?

  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to engender collaboration and a one team approach to compliance and operational risk management.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in first-line compliance, operational risk management, or a related role within the financial services industry.

  • Appropriate operational or enterprise risk qualification.

  • Knowledge of financial services industry standards, and best practices pertaining to first-line risk management.

  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills.

  • ICAAP processes including scenario analysis.

  • Proven history of successfully implementing first-line compliance and risk management initiatives within a financial service setting.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, w ith a strong commitment to upholding the highest standards of compliance and risk management.
