We are looking to appoint a Youth Engagement Coordinator. The role sits with the Housing and Communities Services; Communities and Opportunities directorate.  The post holder will work closely with the West Northants Youth Offer Board, reporting to the Community Development Manager.

The role of the Youth Engagement Co-ordinator will include the development, planning and delivery of youth engagement, working in partnership with both internal services and external VCS youth providers, existing youth forums, panels and steering groups to ensure that the voice of young people is heard in institutions and organisations that affect the lives of young people. The post-holder will also be the lead for the Council on defining and supporting the delivery of our Youth Offer; and will work with VCS youth providers to ensure strong and appropriate support for young people.

What will you be doing?
  • Actively take the lead, engaging with internal and external stakeholders and young people to understand existing work and identify where there are gaps to develop our approach to Youth Work and Youth Engagement.
  • Develop and support the delivery of West Northamptonshire Council’s Youth Engagement Strategy which shapes and ensures provision of both statutory and non-statutory services that meet the needs of customers and comply with relevant statutory duties relating to our youth work offer.
  • Undertake a range of assets and needs analyses, resource mapping and value for money evaluations to ensure that commissioning is needs led, evidenced based, outcome focused and cost effective. This will include working with partner agencies to provide systematic information and analysis concerning needs, service deficiencies and costs and working with all agencies to improve the type and quality of data held to support improved use of management information, including sharing information between agencies.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor the implementation of the agreed Youth Engagement Strategy in consultation with partner agencies and the Youth Offer Board; to update the plan and provide reports on progress and barriers to relevant parties.
  • Support consultations and engagement to help to shape Council led services and identify best practise in youth engagement and support Council colleagues
  • Supporting the Youth Offer Board to recruit 15 Young Ambassadors from across West Northants.
  • Support and empower community led groups to work collaboratively and identify opportunities to bid for local, regional and national funding  
  • Build and maintain good relationships with partner agencies, youth providers and the VCS
  • Work in line with our asset-based community development approach, valuing the strengths of young people and utilising our community assets at a Local Area Partnership level to empower and build resilience
  • To maximise personal productivity, minimise duplication and errors; and manage our information efficiently and securely to reduce risk, though effective use of Office 365 and our internal IT systems and applications.
  • Actively challenge and seek to eliminate any directly or indirectly discriminatory practice or behaviours
  • Demonstrate awareness and understanding of other people’s behavioural, physical, social and welfare needs and ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of yourself and other persons.
