What it’s like to be an Electrical Distribution Engineer

You’ll be given high levels of autonomy in your role and be responsible for: 

  • You'll ensure all associated businesses processes and activities are compliant with statutory requirements, industry standards, company policy and procedures. 
  • Review electrical programme of work weekly to ensure work activities are compliant with operational procedures, operatives hold relevant authorisations for allocated tasks, enough work has been programmed and that the detail is satisfactory as part of the operative’s work instruction. 
  • Provide Day-to-day electric technical support and guidance for senior management team, business development managers, designers, project managers, supervisors and operational teams.
  • Assume role of NERS Authorising Officer 
  • Lead the electrical operational competency process, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and group policies and procedures. 
  • Construction and maintenance of the required electrical operational policies and procedures required to allow the business to operate. 
  • Health and Safety responsibilities for on- and off-site activities with regard to the companies, staff, independent installers, client staff and the general public. 
  • Providing support for the company’s training and development plan including delivery of training courses and briefings. 
  • Production and maintenance of all policies and procedures relating to: Electrical Network Operations and installation standards and procedures. 
  • Carry out all substation testing and commissioning, DNO pressure tests/witness tests, CT panel testing and commissioning. 
  • Assist operations with the management & procurement of electrical materials for projects in advance of programme. Engaging with suppliers to ensure procurement of materials in line with DNO/IDNO specifications. Trial new products and review existing products to ensure the company obtains quality products for competitive prices in a timely fashion.
  • Assume a lead role supporting operations in dealing with electrical technical work such as 11kV substation connections and complex commercial connections, liaising with the DNO/IDNO and or customer as required.
  • Review electrical programme of work weekly to ensure work activities are compliant with operational procedures, operatives hold relevant authorisations for allocated tasks, enough work has been programmed and that the detail is satisfactory as part of the operative’s work instruction. 
  • Provide Day-to-day electric technical support and guidance for senior management team, business development managers, designers, project managers, supervisors, and operational teams.
  • Fulfil required NERS roles as required by the Company. 


 

What it takes to become one of our Electrical Distribution Engineers

We’re looking for someone with who has a minimum of IOSH or a recognised equivalent qualification in Health and Safety as well as a Safety Passport CSC for SHEA Power. 

You’ll demonstrate working knowledge of CDM regulations and have previous experience for HV Pressure testing up to 33KV and Substation Commissioning. You’ll also have demonstrable knowledge and experience to act as an authorising officer under the NERS accreditation scheme for operations and cable jointing up to 33KV.
