We are looking for a motivated and innovative ICT Teacher/Lecturer to come and join our incredible team at Wing College!

Cambian Wing College

Wing College is a specialist further education college offering both day and 38-52 week residential placements. We provide holistic education for students aged 16-25 years who have a diagnosis of Autistic Spectrum Disorder and associated mental health conditions. At Wing College we use specialist education approaches, therapeutic support and environments and staffing expertise to prepare students to meet the demands of adult life in a positive way.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up to date understanding of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) principles, definitions and good practice. This includes an awareness of the roles and responsibilities of those who contribute to SEND programmes
  • Effectively coordinate work across the college teaching ICT and contribute to and coordinate ICT across the curriculum
  • Teach accredited course in functional IT and computer science up to A-Level (Entry 3 – Level 3)
  • Design and teach a Cybersecurity curriculum, specifically focusing on areas of need for students with Autism Spectrum Conditions
  • Communicate and consult with parents/carers and other appropriate people, participating in student focused meetings as required.
  • Promote social and emotional development, positive behaviour and where appropriate for the age group taught, to prepare for adulthood.

 

The successful candidate will use effective teaching strategies and lesson structures to deliver the curriculum by:

  • Being familiar with curriculum requirements and making full use of assessment information to develop, adapt, differentiate and evaluate teaching strategies to give maximum benefit to students with SEND
  • Identifying appropriate learning outcomes and developing a range of approaches which reduce barriers arising from impairments and help students to attain achievable targets.
  • Thoroughly planning and preparing courses and lessons and contributing to broader developments as requested
  • Sequencing and structuring learning experiences and environments to develop organisational and problem solving skills to encourage independent learning
  • Selecting and managing resources, using specialised materials including ICT, as appropriate, to enable maximum access to the curriculum and to promote independent living skills.
  • Being aware of the effects on learning and behaviour of medical treatment, medication and therapeutic regimes, adjusting targets and approaches accordingly.
  • Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to make best use of expertise.
  • To ensure a high standard of visual displays, provide a stimulating and challenging environment.

 

Person Specification

  • Recognised teaching qualification – QTS/QTLS/Level 5 DET
  • Recognised qualification(s) relevant to the subject areas to be taught.
  • Current, clean driving license
  • No criminal record – including convictions, cautions, reprimands, bindings over or warnings, which may be relevant to the safety and welfare of students/residents or staff.
  • Knowledge of ICT Curriculum up to and including A Level Computer Science and Industry-based qualification
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity (keeping safe online) curriculum
  • Knowledge of learning disabilities and/or special needs relevant to the establishment
  • Experience planning, delivering, assessing learning activities appropriate to individuals’ needs and abilities.
