The post holder will work within our social care residential homes as below. The post holder will cover 2 residential homes as identified below. Post: Band 5 Equivalent Occupational Therapist
Salary: £29,544 (Increase to £31,865 following completion of preceptorship)
Hours: 40 Hours per week

Although experience in sensory integration is desired, formal recognised training will be provided to support the skill development in this area. 

For the role/s the post holder will have support from an Occupational Therapy Assistant (part time) and the Activity co-ordinator (1 Activity Coordinator per home) and will be provided with frequent clinical supervision.

Hollyhurst: Hollyhurst is a specialist residential service with nursing, supporting individuals with learning disabilities and complex needs in Darlington, County Durham. The specialist MDT led team support individuals who have additional mental or physical health needs and behaviours that may challenge.

The team specialise on taking people who are in a crisis. Depending on the individual’s level of need, we provide different levels of support within 3 areas:

14 beds in the main house – there are a number of living areas including a quiet lounge and two large communal lounges. In addition, the service has a resident’s café, life skills kitchen, IT room as well as a relaxation room. Everyone has their own bedroom, some of which are en-suite, which they are encouraged to decorate and personalise to suit their own personal style.

4 single occupancy flats – these bespoke flats provide individuals with more complex support needs in their own space to live more independently with staff support. We support individuals to gain the skills needed for moving on to supported living.

Hollyhurst Lodge – within the grounds, this 2 bedroom bungalow is a bespoke self-contained service delivering 24 hour support for two individuals. This service was specially designed in partnership with local commissioners and community teams to provide personalised support for two adults with complex needs.

Thornfield Grange: Thornfield Grange is a specialist residential service with nursing for adults with autism, learning disabilities and complex needs. Based in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, Thornfield Grange supports individuals who have behaviours that may challenge, as well as those who have significant difficulties with social engagement.

The service is split into 2 sections, the main house with 6 en-suite bedrooms and single occupancy flats for 3 individuals who may require additional support.

3 single occupancy flats – These self-contained living areas provide the opportunity for 3 individuals with more challenging needs to live in their own space with staff support. Each flat has a lounge, kitchen/diner and en-suite bedroom. These 3 flats are located in the grounds of Thornfield Grange and each has its own garden, whilst also having access to the service’s main gardens.

6 en-suite bedrooms with multiple lounges and dining facilities, Thornfield Grange has a range of facilities that are accessible to all individuals. These include an Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills kitchen, a state of the art sensory room designed to develop and engage individual’s senses. Within the grounds, there is an allotment, which is looked after by the residents. Other outdoor activities are available and there is a large lawn with patio and seating areas for residents and their visitors to enjoy as well as a sensory garden.
