The Head of FInance & Operations (HFO) is responsible for ensuring the successful and efficient day-to-day operation of the school's support services, as well as providing overall business management and financial direction for St Margaret's as a member of the school's Senior Leadership Team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively to develop and deliver the strategic plan for the school and ensure the support functions run smoothly.
  • Lead on Finance, operations and facilities matters, oversee good governance, manage risk and seek out opportunities to enhance income and maximise revenue streams.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and external parties, acting as a school ambassador and champion for the school's purpose.

The HFO is a central figure in the life of the school who must be visible to and command the respect of the whole community. They will be a resilient team player with a genuine commitment to the mission and values of St Margaret’s, as a girls’ independent school.  

In addition, it is likely that the successful candidate will demonstrate all or most of the following: 

Experience & Qualifications

  • A professional accountancy qualification
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Member of a Senior Leadership Team in a complex organisation; this experience may have been gained in a charitable or commercial environment
  • Leadership and management of a diverse team
  • Experience of preparing P&L accounts, cash flow forecasts and managing a payroll;
  • Some experience in or knowledge of facilities management
  • Track record of working successfully with a diverse range of stakeholders

About the school/organisation

Founded in 1846, St Margaret’s School for Girls is the oldest all-through girls’ school in Scotland and the only single sex school in Aberdeen. Today, it provides an exceptional all-round education to around 370 pupils aged 3-18.
