Our Outreach Support Workers provide one to one practical and emotional support and develop positive and productive relationships with people with care and support needs living in their own homes to enable them to live well, build and maintain their independence, connect with their communities and reach their life goals. Most of the people we are currently supporting live with a learning disability, with autism or have mental health support needs.

As an Outreach Support Worker you are likely to be involved in a range of different tasks which may include supporting someone to access leisure facilities or community groups, to find a job or undertake some volunteering, to try out a new bus route so that it becomes familiar, to practice and develop their cooking skills and try out new recipes, to read and manage their bills and correspondence, to plan and get their weekly shopping, to maintain their living environment, to attend health appointments, or simply to talk through their worries and concerns, but all with a real focus on enabling the person to build their capability, their confidence and their connections.

We are not a domiciliary care service and you will not be required to support people with their personal care.

Our service believes good outreach support should be:

Person-Centred – determined by individual needs, choices, preferences and wellbeing

Strengths-based – focusing on people’s own strengths, abilities and assets and moving away from a reliance on the provision of services

Outcome-focused – being able to measure the effects of the service on a person’s life and situation

Community-connected – making use of naturally occurring community assets and networks to reduce social isolation.

Interested applicants do not necessarily need experience but should share our commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of people to exercise freedom and autonomy over how their support is provided, and to working in a way which ensures fairness, respect, equality, dignity and inclusion for everyone using our service.

We are a Cambridgeshire-wide service so you will need to be able to travel across the county. We have office bases all across the county. As we move to digitising our service, you will also need some basic IT skills. We will provide all the equipment you need.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided, plus the opportunity to undertake a social care qualification. You will additionally benefit from a generous mileage allowance.
