Technical Services Manager
Job Purpose:-
To support the Technical Manager in maintaining product quality, safety and legality throughout the business by ensuring procedures within the company are followed.

To lead, motivate and inspire the Technical Coordinator, Food Technologist and Technical Auditor. Managing workload, prioritising with the ability to see the bigger picture.

Health & Safety/Environment
To be aware of all aspects of the company policy on Health & Safety at all times including fire evacuation, accident reporting and office safety awareness.

Food Safety
To understand the importance of ensuring all statutory (industry guidelines), legal, food safety and customer requirements are met and ensuring all are aware of the roles they play in meeting these requirements and adhere to established company procedures at all times.

Accountabilities:-
• Responsibility for maintenance of all Technical and Quality systems;
• Maintain Quality Manual up to date meeting all of the BRC and clients requirements;
• Maintenance of Red tractor and BMPA Certification systems; Main point of contact for site on these Certifications;
• HACCP Team Leader – responsibility for leading HACCP meetings, coordinating all system updates required, maintenance of system to current legislation and scientific developments, maintain HACCP flow as required;
• VACCP and TACCP team leader for site;
• Maintenance of GMP Audits system – day to day coordination of actions, aiming to achieve “Best in Class” High Care standards; Ability to work inter departments to drive standards
• Maintenance of Internal System Audits – Responsible for drafting schedule, allocating Audits, ensure root cause applied to close and NCR’s raised;
• Review of Product Passports, collating of data supporting Technical Manager’s approval;
• Risk Assessment of New products;
• Allergens – Coordination of verification and validation, development and maintenance of robust Allergen management system; Verification of correct implementation of allergen rules/allergen clean downs by planning Department;
• Maintenance of laboratory sample schedule, ensuring adherence to plan and updating as required;
• Continuous improvement approach to problem sorting;
• KPI reporting;
• Key support on external audits; Ensure all NCR’s are closed with CB’s within deadlines; Maintenance of Certification by annual preparing and booking of Audits;
• Live GAP Analysis kept against clients Policies; Preparation for clients Star Audit;
• Food Safety Culture Champion and leader in delivering site initiatives;
• Close working with Hygiene Team, ensure actions identified (e.g. Listeria Management Plan) are implemented where applicable on the day shift;
• Management of Pest Control system;
• Deputy for the QA Manager;
• Deputy for the Lead Technical Manager

Qualifications:-
• Food Safety Degree or equivalent
• HACCP Level 4
• Food Safety Level 4
• VACCP
• TACCP
• Lead Auditor Training
• BRC standards Training

Skills and Knowledge:-
• Undergraduate on a science related subject or equivalent;
• Some Experience in Food Industry;
• Resilience under pressure;
• Food processing knowledge;
• Auditing skills essential;
• Excellent communication Skills;
• Microbiology and Food Safety knowledge;
• Ability to multitask;
• Manufacture standards
• BRC Standards
• Laboratory knowledge;
• Sanitation principles

Key Challenges for the Role:-
• High pressure job, ability to work under pressure essential;
• Requires strong operator both at Senior Management level and also Shop floor Operative level;
• 24 hour operation and support, on call availability;
• Expected to lead a team, so leadership characteristics are essential
• Needs to be exceptionally well organized, able to make quick judgements and back these with facts and data without losing focus on the detail.

• Absence of Food Safety incidents;
• CPMU within targets;
• Certification Status;
• Safe products launched;
• Effective team in place with successors identified;
• High Hygiene standards measured through Listeria/Environmental pass rates;
• Microbiological pass rate of products;
• Food Safety Culture score;
• External and 3rdparty audit NCR number
