Colas, Cheshire West & Chester are recruiting for a dynamic experienced planner/programmer to undertake all aspects of planning & programming function for capital and revenue works within a busy highways department assisting with efficient and ethical delivery of the Term maintenance contract. The successful candidate will coordinate on planning of capital scheme works delivery and work closely with the operations manager, schemes department & planning & programme manager to ensure forward planning and effective delivery against the annual, forward & contractors plan.

Actively promote value for money, and right first-time approach especially when dealing directly with external stakeholders and internal departments.

Main Responsibilities

Programme capital scheme and revenue works using chosen software by client and help to build annual, forward and contractors plan.

Help to build health and safety site job packs ensuring construction design management and health and safety is adhered to, support schemes and planning teams to deliver programmes right first time, support team with cost value reconciliation report and outputs.

Formally issue programme updates to the customer as required by the contract, attend progress meetings with internal and external customers and deliver presentation on programme progress, ensure planning and programming is produced on time by understanding the planning process to meet challenging deadlines.

Work with allocated operations support in the production of method statements etc and ensure that programme aligns with the pricing methods, engage with supply chain to discuss and achieve optimum programme and method solutions, ensure management are made aware at the earliest opportunity of any activities which is becoming near critical or likely to become critical, attend meetings as required and assist in the preparation of programmes for works, contribute to the wider team where requested, carry out other appropriate duties as assigned by the line manager.

Coordinate all Client, stakeholder and public liaison requirements of the scheme, ensuring effective communication by working closely with the public liaison officer and client teams, apply, monitor, and manage street works permits, Temporary traffic regulation notices and orders for works, and ensure client teams and internal departments are aware of future works, continuously monitoring and improving processes look to foster innovation and ways of working, act as a mentor and support for the project scheduling team, maintain / develop good relations with all stakeholders including clients, managers, supervisors & operatives.

Ensure all company procedures are understood and adhered to and effective time management between duties.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will deliver programming & co ordinating of capital & revenue delivery works, support senior management team, help to support and mentor the reactive & cyclic project schedulers, work closely with key stakeholders, enforce right first time & value for money approach. 

You will have demonstrable experience in a similar discipline.

Working knowledge of health and safety & construction design management 2015.

Strong ICT skills especially office 365 & systems use.

Experience of using Microsoft project, Primavera P6 and general planning systems.

Experience of street works permits process and temporary traffic regulation orders and notices

Desirable GCSE Maths / English or equivalent – Minimum Grade C

Suitable planning experience and/or training course attendance.

APM or Prince in project management desirable but not essential.

SSSTS desirable but not essential.

A degree or equivalent qualification in construction related subject.
