The Data Team at Saga is growing, we are looking for our next Data Engineer to join our expert team. We now need a hands-on Data Engineer capable of gathering, transforming and structuring data in our Single Customer View platform, (SCV).

You’ll will be working with some awesome tech! Also, at Saga you’ll have the chance to work with large consumer data pools in a heavily regulated organisation.

The data function at Saga has recently transformed and developed the service and strategy, we are a crucial function and critical to the future growth of Saga and the exciting journey ahead.  

If you can naturally use your technical skills, knowledge & experience to obtain data directly from source, then interpret it, structure it, manage it, create documentation and make it available for analytics users, helping implement Data Governance controls in the SCV, then this role is for you.

** Remote/home working allowed ** With a hybrid approach requiring some team days in our London or Kent offices. You will need to be within a reasonable commuting distance to undertake this role.

Main Responsibilities

Joining us as a Data Engineer, you will be accountable for the following; 

  • Consult across various areas of the business to identify data sources, usage, refresh rates, to help gather requirements for build.
  • Utilise data lake, Snowflake, related technologies and applications to help deliver our new SCV.
  • Support and manage release processes including co-ordination and understanding of dependencies.
  • Work with other technologists to design and build pipelines and data engineering components to deliver requirements.
  • Ensure build adheres to standards & policies set by Data Governance & InfoSec.
  • Test and monitor data flows, report & fix any issues.
  • Provide documentation on code delivered for data ingest & structuring routines.
  • Advise on and contribute to projects & delivery planning for data engineering elements.
  • Contributing to the design of CI/CD processes.
  • Work with internal teams to help train and migrate them to use the same SCV platform and toolset.
  • Help optimise processes, for example, automation of existing manual processes.
  • Following our Governance and Business Code of Conduct and always acting with integrity and due diligence.
  • Continually looking for innovative ways to make improvements based on the latest trends and research.
The Ideal Candidate

As an organisation we manage data for millions of our customers, therefore you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience;  

  • Have a solid understanding of Data engineering techniques and concepts; data ingestion, processing and storage.
  • Skilled in programming and query languages. (Particularly SQL)
  • Have used Data visualisation tools e.g., Tableau.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and technical presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, analytical and methodical.
  • Always pro-active and focused on business objectives.
  • Able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Able to work in a flexible and agile environment.

Desirable;

  • Competent using cloud based analytical tools, e.g. Snowflake.
  • Can demonstrate previous experience of large complex Data Engineering projects with designing & developing ETL pipelines.
  • Have used MS Azure data storage, management & analytics apps.
