Lowri Beck, part of the Calisen Group, is in an exciting and strong position where we are seeing growth and development in all areas of the business. We are currently looking for a Senior Meter Technician to join our Senior Meter Technician/Internal Auditing Team, working within and covering the North London area (Postcode areas including, but not limited to, EN/N/NW/WD)

Reporting to the Auditing Team Leader, the Senior Meter Technician will effectively manage/supervise the technical aspects of directly employed and sub-contracted meter fixing operatives within a defined geographical area in the North London region, while also completing technical auditing of these operatives. In addition, the Senior Meter Technician will also carry out any meter installation duties and associated tasks as required, including having responsibility for customer facing issues.

This is a permanent, full-time role working 42.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday + weekend on call as and when required, with a salary of £44,709.50 per annum + £2,000 London weighting (if applicable).

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes as a member of Field Operation Management Technical Team.
  • Carry out specialist duties consistent with your skill set and as the business demands.
  • Observe new operatives coming out of training to assess training standards and report any concerns to their assigned Field Manager, training, and training administration teams.
  • Provide on-demand technical advice to meter fixing operatives both in and out of their designated area. Identify trends with individual operatives so training can be arranged to correct the shortcomings of the operative concerned.
  • Provide out of hours technical support to an agreed frequency covering weekdays and weekends to include emergency and business as usual.
  • Provide site visit assistance and coaching to operatives who have non-conformance issues. Identify trends with individual operatives so training can be arranged to correct the shortcomings of the operative concerned.
  • Provide cover for Technical Helpdesk as and when required with agreement of Auditing Team Leader.
  • Support technical telephone appointments in line with recruitment requirements when required.
  • Assist Field Operations Management Team to ensure direct and sub-contracted meter fixing operatives achieve and improve operational targets by maximizing performance and customer service.
  • Carries out quality and compliance checks (WIP audits) on direct and sub-contracted meter fitting operatives to an agreed frequency and standard compliant with Lowri Becks MOCoPA & Gas Safe Register objectives.
  • Carry out quality and compliance checks (audits) on external auditors to an agreed frequency and standard compliant with Lowri Becks MOCoPA & Gas Safe Register objectives (Check the Checker).
  • Deliver ad-hoc training, coaching and assessments as required to company standards within area of responsibility, to include outside agency visits (e.g., external training providers) as and when required. Carry out twice yearly MOCoPA and Gas Safe assessments.
  • Conduct technical Toolbox Talks in association with Field Operations Management at an agreed frequency or as directed. To keep operatives up to date with changes and enforce company procedures and standards to reduce non- compliances.
  • Carry out technical complaint investigation associated with meter operations activity as and when required.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to Lowri Beck support services and meter operations administrative sections.
  • Offer advice/support to field managers during the investigation/disciplinary process when required.
  • Support Auditing Team Leader, Technical Standards Manager and Technical services department to implement improvement plans and corrective action reviews.
  • Promotes safety culture within Lowri Beck and ensures compliance with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Meter Operators Code of Practice Agreement
  • Carries out additional unspecified tasks and duties as directed by the Field Services Audit Manager in line with the overall business needs of the company.
  • Promotes Lowri Beck Policies and procedures.

What we are looking for

  • Live within or close to North London postcode areas (e.g., EN, N, NW, WD)
  • Hold gas accreditation in metering, along with ideally having an electrical installation/IET 17th edition qualification.
  • A minimum of 18 months experience working within the metering industry installing gas & electric smart meters. Any previous experience of installing 3 phase meters would be advantageous.
  • Hold a full manual driving licence that allows you to drive in the UK.
  • Ideally have some experience of managing/supervising a technical field-based workforce.
  • Posses detailed knowledge of metering industry standards & smart metering installation and commissioning.
  • Have knowledge of Gas Safe Registration/IGEM Codes of Practice, MOCoPA & SMICoP.
  • Computer literate with the ability to operate Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative, while also being confident when speaking to internal managers at all levels of the business.
