Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the Head of Operations - South is a senior management position that is critically aligned to the success of our historically rich, yet challenging UK operation.

Focused on the continuous improvement of our distribution network and working as a broader part of the existing operations structure, you will play the lead role in ensuring our General Managers and, in turn, their direct teams, have both a commercial and people focused approach to delivering a best-in-class solution to our clients and customers alike.

This role profile is an overview of the remit of your job role, responsibilities, and accountabilities. Alterations may occur from time to time to incorporate changing circumstances, and you will be required to be flexible and perform other duties as required, which may be at the same level as your home role or below.

Due to the nature and location of this role, we ask that applicants be located within a commutable distance to our Worcester hub as a base location, but who are also willing to travel across the Southern Region when required.

Main Responsibilities

Your role will include:

  • Leading and managing two southern hubs (Worcester and Enfield) with a further six satellite out bases, again spread across the midlands and the south
  • Leading, motivating and inspiring a team of two hub General Managers and in turn their direct reports
  • Leading the region, to ensure that operational plans are in place to achieve strategic objectives focusing on cost, people, service, and continuous improvement
  • Delivering operational requirements, into meaningful plans that drive and improve efficiency, and key performance indicators
  • Chairing operational meetings to create an environment that focuses on maximising profitability and balancing operational costs across the main hub and out base community
  • Identifying, driving, and leading operational change projects to meet future/projected business needs
  • Spotting and understanding the root cause of problems and executing appropriate countermeasures
  • Inspiring others to foster and develop a safe working environment for all ArrowXL colleagues and visitors, putting behavioural safety practices into place
  • Working closely with the support centre lead teams across People Services, Finance and IT in order to prioritise strategic aims and ambitions into tangible actions
  • Working collaboratively with peers to ensure consistency and the sharing of best practice
  • Inspiring others to lead and support collaboration with service partners and sub-contractors to ensure effective vendor management
  • Facilitating effective performance management and people development across the area of responsibility taking union relationships and collective agreements into account
  • Acting as a cultural ambassador to inspire and cultivate a positive working environment while driving business initiatives
  • Travel across the sites and satellite out bases to meet and drive people and operational process both in house and through our service partner network
The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate for the role will have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of operating at a senior Operations Management level in both warehousing and transport
  • Previous proven experience in a regional, multi-site environment
  • Structured, measured and used to acting in a fast pace changing environment
  • Experienced in interrogating data and analytics to provide board level reports and priority ambitions
  • Excellent use of written and verbal communication
  • Demonstrable success and experience in driving change
  • Previous experience of leading an employee headcount of 400+
  • Experience of managing budget setting and cost analysis
