We are excited to introduce a new role into the Underwriting, Pricing, and Insurance division at MPS. We are looking for someone with a keen interest in the detail to join us as the Underwriting and Pricing Governance Lead.  

As the Underwriting and Pricing Governance Lead you will lead the Policy & Governance team in managing the day to day underwriting control activities which includes providing oversight on underwriting policy, underwriting authorities, pricing sufficiency and product reviews. The role applies to both discretionary and insurance business.

The is an interesting and varied role where you will take the lead on designing, delivering, and embedding the Policy & Governance strategy and culture within MPS for Underwriting and Pricing. The role places emphasis on leadership, embedding change and effective stakeholder management.

Main Responsibilities
  • Design, deliver and embed a Policy & Governance strategy to plan, cost and quality, working with the Underwriting, Pricing & Insurance leadership team to ensure understanding and compliance. 
  • Work with similar functions in other divisions (e.g. Member Cases and Claims) in order to develop aligned best practice on governance.
  • Create an environment of understanding, relating to the importance of risk identification, escalation, and management.
  • Ensure product reviews are carried out regularly and action is taken based on the outcomes, this includes leading the cycle of Annual Product Reviews to ensure that products remain fit for purpose.
  • Review consistency of underwriting decisions and assuring that decisions are correctly recorded.
  • Provide effective policy & governance input into commercial underwriting, product and pricing team, optimising risk, and reward of interventions.
  • Use Member Experience insight and MI/BI to inspire strategy and plans and ensure that teams put members at the heart of all they do.
  • Provide inspirational leadership to the Policy & Governance team to ensure the training, competence, performance, and engagement of all colleagues.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Detailed knowledge of control and governance frameworks
  • Knowledge in risk and compliance management
  • Experience of setting, delivering, and embedding effective governance strategy
  • Excellent leadership skills – ability to engage, coach and motivate a team
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills – ability to build relationships and influence senior stakeholders internally, externally, and globally
  • Skilled at driving and implementing change at an operational and strategic level
