An opportunity is available an Innovation Engineer based at either Bristol or Castle Donington.

The Innovation Team is responsible for creating and delivering a wide range of Innovation projects which aim to transform the way we operate and manage our network. Through these projects, we are building the knowledge, skills, technologies and commercial processes NGED needs in order to drive Net Zero.

Net-zero targets are transforming the way we work and increasing the scope of the positive impact we can make. Right now, we’re looking for an Innovation Engineer.

Main Responsibilities
  • Leading the application for funding from Ofgem innovation incentive schemes and other sources.
  •  Innovation project management in accordance with Ofgem governance and NGED policies
  • Assisting colleagues in various internal NGED teams to develop, trial, disseminate and adopt relevant solutions.
  • Developing new policy relating to low carbon networks ("smart grids") and their interaction with smart meters and future energy markets.
  • Representing NGED at national level in ENA, Ofgem and Government department meetings.
  • Developing and reviewing WPD policies relating to innovation to maintain legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Detailed reporting of innovation projects and proposals in accordance with Regulatory requirements. This includes compliance with Regulatory Guidance, preparation of detailed project plans and cost benefit analyses, progress and cost control monitoring and regulatory reporting.
The Ideal Candidate

This is an exciting opportunity for individuals that are passionate about new technologies and delivering the UK’s Net Zero ambitions. The role requires a highly motivated individual that strives for excellence in every output they produce. It is essential to be able to organise, plan and prioritise work while working under pressure in order to ensure that every task is delivered on time. It is required to have good knowledge of the UK Electricity transmission and distribution assets, procedures and drivers relating to safety, performance, cost and relevant legislation.

A Higher National Diploma or equivalent in a relevant subject is required; however, a Degree in a relevant subject is preferred. Appropriate training and support will be given in order for the successful candidate to realise their full potential within the role.

The successful candidate must be mobile throughout the company’s four licence areas.
