The starting salary for this role is £29,291 per annum for working 36 hours per week. This is a two-year fixed term contract or secondment opportunity.

We are currently looking for a Traffic Regulations Orders Clerk to join the Traffic Regulation Orders Team.

About the role

In this role you will provide a legal service throughout Highways and Transport for Surrey by promoting and producing both temporary and permanent Traffic Regulation Orders to support the Services Capital and Revenue Highway budgets and to support a wide range of outside agencies. You will produce legal documents to agreed timescales and generally give legal advice to a wide range of engineers and members.

The work involves close communications with all eleven of the Service’s Area Highway Teams in determining their legal requirements to support both the delivery of the Local Transport Plan program and the legal support necessary for works on the highway necessitated by such bodies as Statutory undertakers, Network Rail and developers.

About you

You will need general knowledge of Traffic Management techniques and legislation. Knowledge of the Road Traffic Regulation Act and its corresponding procedural guides would be an advantage, but is not essential, as full training will be given.

You will carry out the full scope of producing the necessary legal documentation, including the production of statutory notices and traffic orders, conducting any necessary discussions with and seeking advice from Senior Solicitors, and corresponding with both Borough and County Members. Therefore, excellent communication skills will be essential. You will ensure that at all times the County Council is protected in its legal duty and that all Traffic Regulation Orders are sealed before works are undertaken on the highway.

At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
