An exciting opportunity is available for a Systems Administrator in the Database Administration Team (DBA) based at Exeter or Plymouth.  Working in a dynamic environment, designing, deploying and supporting systems that form part of the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure, you will be part of a team that is enabling key ED2 drivers.

Reporting to the Technical Architect of the DBA Team you will be responsible for supporting the Data & Digitisation Team with Cloud and on Premise event driven solutions, whilst maintaining key assets.

*Please note the successful candidate may initially be appointed at a lower salary until all relevant courses and training are complete.

Main Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain specialist knowledge of Database concepts, object and data modelling techniques and design principles and a detailed knowledge of database architectures, software and platforms. Evaluate potential solutions, demonstrating, installing and commissioning selected products.
  • Manage database and application configuration(s) including installing and upgrading software servers and application tools, ensuring that all standard procedures are observed, applying fixes, and maintaining supplier and user documentation.
  • Assist in recovering databases and related systems during Disaster Recovery Tests and ensuring there is business continuity.
  • Assisting project managers with implementation, support and technical documentation of any given system.
  • Supporting the wider team with operational and engineering duties.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members, internal stakeholders, and third party suppliers.
The Ideal Candidate

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with practical experience of administering Databases or Middleware. 

Be able to build good working relationships, demonstrate experience and or understanding of working within agile teams and tools such as GitLab, PowerShell, Python, kubernetes.

Existing knowledge of maintaining, supporting and administering core database and Middleware systems and services in compliance with SLAs.

The successful candidate may initially be appointed on a designate basis and all candidates will be required to undertake and successfully complete a BS7858 security screening check.
