Our Team:

Our engineering team builds and maintains core digital products for Bauer’s lifestyle media, including market leaders www.graziadaily.co.uk & www.empireonline.com, alongside an array of supporting services & tools.

The Focus of the Role:

Grazia Daily, Closer Magazine and Empire Online are some of the high-profile web applications published by the digital arm of the global Bauer Media group. As one of our software engineers, you will be at the forefront of pushing these apps into places they have not been before. Each of these is in a constant phase of feature development combined with continuous analysis of current and future web technologies. You will be heavily involved with choosing and using the next tech for the next steps. Of course, it's far from being as simple as just publishing magazines online - you'll be designing and developing systems that marshal data from numerous sources, organise and publish that data in many ways and that fire events that are consumed by further internal applications and external event consumers. You will be working with a slick development lifecycle, with continuous integration and deployment having the highest priority, and you will be part of our ongoing push towards having everything as code.

To help you along the way, we will give you a top-spec MacBook Pro with two large external monitors, 5% of your time for personal R&D, access to training and a bunch of other benefits that we can talk about later.

A focus on and knowledge of front-end technologies and UX design will be advantageous in the role.

About The Company

About Bauer Media Group

Bauer Media Group has become an enduringly successful media corporation by focusing on creating content that matters most to millions of people around the world: from print and online publishing to radio and money-helper services for consumers, as well as sales and marketing services for SMB. Family-owned in the 5th generation, Bauer focuses on the long term, with a consumer-first mindset that guides us across our increasingly diverse portfolio. Our workforce of 15,000 shares a passion – to deliver content and services that are popular with, and helpful to, our customers and partners.

As the UK’s biggest selling magazine publisher, we create iconic and influential magazine media brands, digital properties and associated consumer and B2B live events for diverse, passionate audiences.  We reach 25 million consumers through our portfolio, which includes heat, Grazia, Closer, Empire, Motor Cycle News, Parkers, Mother& Baby, TV Choice, Take a Break, Bella, Yours, Garden News and Country Walking.  Our scale, coupled with the breadth of our portfolio, gives us an advantage over pure play magazine competitors. It also gives us a huge responsibility - our brands become the lens through which our audiences see the world, and for this reason, we take our responsibilities as a media outlet very seriously, recognising that we are responsible for shaping perceptions in the wider world.
