Coventry is constantly evolving, and the Project Delivery Team plays a key role in delivering the City Council’s major construction projects. The team delivers projects across a range of areas, helping to ensure the Council’s objectives are met to support the economic prosperity of the City and benefit the local community.   

Our work is often complex, varied and commercially challenging. The busy team are currently leading on a programme of works delivering new school buildings and refurbishments as well as the delivery of commercial, social care, public realm and greenspace redevelopment and improvements. The team are also involved in supporting wider strategic work that enables investment in the City to ensure growth and prosperity through the delivery of quality schemes.

Coventry is a great centrally located city and our new flagship head office is based one minutes’ walk from Coventry Rail Station which has direct links to and from Birmingham, Nuneaton, Leamington, Rugby, and London Euston stations.  Our office base is fresh and modern with a design focus on agile working.

What is the job role?

This is an exciting time to join Coventry City Council and we are looking for an enthusiastic Project Manager to join the Project Delivery Team to help deliver a challenging programme of work. 

You will have the opportunity to work on a range of projects, with a focus on JCT contracts, and take the project lead from the feasibility stage through to construction completion including client support and contract administration. You will manage the appointed consultant delivery team and have the responsibility for managing project related budgets and programmes, whilst keeping a close eye for detail and be able to deliver for multiple clients.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has experience of the field of construction project management  and a track record of working with the JCT suite of contracts to successfully deliver projects in accordance with the agreed outcomes.

As the projects are of varying complexity and wide ranging in scope, you will be given the opportunity to develop a wide skill set and experience and to develop your understanding of construction projects and project management.

The successful person will have responsibility and autonomy to deliver and manage projects ranging from £50k - £10m+. 

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to play a key role within the Project Delivery Team to work together with our clients to understand their challenges and work together to resolve them, whilst evolving ways to make positive impacts and better experiences for people and ensure our projects contribute to supporting the Councils commitment to the environmental and sustainability targets that benefit local communities and our global environment.

In addition to your construction knowledge, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Your ability to work independently in a demanding service environment
  • Demonstrable budget management experience, including forecast and control
  • Discipline and tenacity to deliver results
  • A desire to learn and develop
  • People management and proactive leadership
  • Knowledge of industry standard contracts
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a varied workload

When applying for this role you will be asked to write a personal statement. When writing your personal statement please ensure that you include clear and detailed evidence of the following:

  • Track record of leading integrated and multi-disciplinary project management teams within a construction / design related environment
  • Experience of managing budgets and cashflow within a project environment with detailed examples of what you have personally been responsible for
  • Detail any previous experience of working with industry standard contracts such as JCT, NEC for construction works and RIBA and/or RICS for consultants’ appointments

Highlight relevant qualifications / accreditations in the field of construction project management
