This is an exciting and rare opportunity to join Information Governance at West Northamptonshire Council to work alongside a dedicated team of professionals delivering data compliance, statutory requests and records management. As part of a forward thinking and innovative team you will be responsible for helping to lead and shape the future of records and information lifecycle management at the Council.

The successful candidate will be passionate about improving records management in both the electronic and physical environments. They will have good project management experience and a desire to provide excellent customer service and value for money to both the organisation and its customers.

You will also have a good working knowledge of data protection and related legislation as well as file naming, version control, classification schemes and associated international records management standards such as ISO15489.

As well as bringing your own knowledge and experience to the role, you will benefit from working alongside experienced Information Governance professionals who will always be available for support or collaboration and who pride themselves on providing high quality support to employees of the Council in all matters relating to Information Governance.

The council is in the process of implementing a new pay structure and terms and conditions which will be applicable to this role.  The outcome could result in a future variation to the advertised salary, and this will be discussed at interview.

What will you be doing?

Within this critical new role, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of a new information strategy with key partners including information technology and service Information Asset Owners. You will be an advocate for EDRMS with a constant focus on reducing physical storage wherever possible.

Other duties will include managing significant physical archives both on premises and off site with an external document storage provider. Challenges that may require innovative solutions include overdue destruction, organisation separation and cost-effective back scanning. You will also have responsibility for reviewing its appropriateness as the contract comes up for review.

In addition, the role includes providing support when necessary to the wider Information Governance team to ensure institutional compliance with information legislation, project support and management, policy guidance writing, data security, retention and destruction and data transparency including web management of published online data.

About you

The Information Governance Team is led by Council's Data Protection Officer (DPO) who has 20 years' experience working in document management and data compliance. IG is also part of the Corporate Servies Directorate which benefits from having the Chief Information and Technology Officer, the Monitoring Officer (MO) and Senior Information Risk Officer (SIRO) within it as well as direct management from the Director and Deputy Director of Legal and Democratic.

As DPO I will encourage you to be proactive, innovative and passionate at all times to implement system and institutional change across the organisation to improve records management compliance and governance.
