The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. 

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.  

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.  In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: 

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and 
  • Customer Care. 

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. 

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

To lead the delivery, monitoring and reporting of Coventry City Council’s Make Your Money Work project within the Employment & Skills Service. This is a new initiative to increase knowledge, confidence and skills in financial literacy among adults within community settings. The funding allocation is via the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) as part of central government investment in a Multiply Fund to improve numeracy skills among the adult population. The provisional funding allocation is circa £650k until 31st March 2025.

The role will include project set up, learner engagement, and embedding programme delivery within a range of Council services and with community partners, to meet outputs and outcomes as outlined in the project proposal submitted to West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA). 

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced, qualified and dynamic Project Manager who is familiar with the adult education sector and can lead on project initiation, delivery, monitoring and reporting (to meet outputs and outcome targets), and project closure.

You will need to be proactive, self-motivated and have the ability to manage change. An essential requirement for you to be considered for this role is sound knowledge of financial literacy including personal financial management, budgeting, and investing. An understanding of needs and interests of adult learners engaging in life-long learning is crucial. In addition, you will need to demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across a wide and diverse range of stakeholders through effective interpersonal, leadership, negotiation and reasoning and communication skills.
