I am looking for a BUYER (maternity cover) for my client based in Shefford, Bedfordshire for an immediate start.

1. Purpose of the role
The Buyer is a key member of the Procurement team with the objective to deliver a value for
money supply chain for my client based in Shefford, Bedfordshire.

The Buyer supports the Procurement Manager and Senior Buyer in their activities and will have
responsibilities of their own for planning and procuring a range of Finished Goods, Components
and/or Raw Materials within assigned portfolio of suppliers, ensuring that the supply chain is
capable of meeting or exceeding business expectations by effective supplier management and
continuous improvement.

4. Main tasks
• Build and maintain close working relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders and my clients
Group purchasing teams.
• Optimization of purchased items inventory levels ensuring availability to Manufacturing and
Customers using appropriate planning tools and systems.
• Raising, issuing and maintaining purchase orders in order to optimize inventory and assure
OTIF delivery from suppliers.
• Liaise with Goods In and Quality Assurance departments regarding in-coming material
delivery schedules.
• Liaise with Customer Services and External Sales Teams regarding finished goods availability
if applicable to portfolio of purchased items managed.
• Supplier management and continuous improvement.
• Support the Procurement Manager to identify potential new suppliers within categories of
responsibility that will support Quality, Cost or New Product Development. Add to the
Approved Supplier List (ASL) once validation and approval is obtained.
• Maintain procurement and inventory planning data e.g. MOQ’s, Lead-times and inventory
planning data (Safety Stocks, Re-Order Points and MRP data).
• Monitor and review supplier performance to ensure standards are achieved against agreed
KPI’s and organizational needs. Report as required and take corrective/preventative actions
if required in order to improve performance.
• Support the Procurement Manager with the implementation of supplier improvement plans
where required in conjunction with internal stakeholders such as QA, Engineering and
Production.
• Identify continuous improvement opportunities through engagement with suppliers and
stakeholders and the use of KPI data. Where opportunities exist, work with key stakeholders
to implement.
• Support the Procurement Manager in the execution of annual saving plans, through
negotiation and/or Value Engineering projects in conjunction with internal stakeholders.
• Support the Procurement Manager with the development and improvement of assigned
categories by implementation of supplier risk assessments and commodity strategies.

5. Additional tasks
• Adhere to and promote the Procurement Policy and procedures across the business,
ensuring that all procurement activity is compliant.
• Communicate with commodity teams and business units across the Group to facilitate
strategies, which support consolidated buying and supply chain management efforts to
achieve best value and ensure continuity of supply.
• Be aware of market trends and pricing developments for raw materials and commodities
applicable to my client.
• Assist with Stock Takes as required.
• Maintain and improve the Company Business Processes in accordance with ISO 9001 and
BES 6001.
• Deputise for Senior Buyer in their absence.

6. Authorities, responsibilities
Authority as defined by the purchasing policy.

7. Communication
Ability to consult with stakeholders, suppliers and internal customers at an appropriate level.
External: Suppliers, Group purchasing.
Internal: all relevant employees, in particular, Quality, R&D, Product Management, Finance,
Planning and Logistics.

8. Education & Experience
• Ideally qualified to Degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent.
• Desire to achieve a minimum CIPS level 4
• Minimum 2-year experience within Procurement & Supply.
