The Project Delivery Team plays a lead role in delivering the City Council’s major construction projects through proactive project and programme management. The team delivers across a range of areas playing a key role in helping to ensure the Council’s objectives are met to support the economic prosperity of the City and benefit the local community.   

Teams within the service work together and in partnership with the private sector to secure investment in the city and delivery of quality schemes. The team are currently leading on the Education Capital programme of works and also get involved in wider strategic work that enables investment in the City to ensure growth and prosperity.

What is the job role?

This is an exciting time to join Coventry City Council and we are looking for an experienced Construction Project Manager to help deliver a challenging programme of work. 

We need the right person to join our team to help manage and deliver a range of construction projects within the City.  We are looking for someone who understands the world of construction and is a confident and competent technical specialist in areas including new build, refurbishment and demolition.  The successful person will have responsibility and autonomy to deliver and manage projects ranging from £50k - £20m. 

The role includes the management of people within the team and the project environment and has responsibility for managing project related budgets.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to play a key role within the Project Delivery Team. We have high expectations and aspire to achieve. If you are proactive and have the skills, experience and tenacity to succeed, this will be the role for you.

In addition to your construction knowledge, you will need to be able to demonstrate:

  • Your ability to work independently in a demanding service environment
  • Demonstrable budget management experience, including forecast and control
  • Discipline and tenacity to deliver results
  • A desire to learn and develop
  • People management and proactive leadership
  • Knowledge of industry standard contracts
  • Balance and authority in taking decisions in difficult situations
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a varied workload

  • Evidence of having worked in a similar role within a construction / design related environment
  • Experience of budget monitoring and cashflow within a project environment with examples of what you have been responsible for
  • Previous experience of working with industry standard contracts such as JCT, NEC for construction and RIBA and RICS for consultants
